Neuro Note #2

 Neuro Note #2  In the YouTube video, Dad Living with Parkinson's , the journey of Andy McDowell was shared. It was such a rich learning experience to listen to personal stories from Andy's life. I was especially moved by how he wrote a poem to explain to his daughters what Parkinson's was. This video made me think more critically about the emotional and social impact of a disease.  I was interested in this video because I wanted imagine what it would be like if one of my family members was diagnosed with PD. In addition, my grandmother's brother has Parkinson's disease and we discussed the challenges of watching loved ones with degenerative diseases this past weekend. Through watching this video, I learned more about deep brain stimulation and how Parkinson's is unique in each individual case.  This video was a great resource. Neuro Note #1

 Neuro Note #1 By watching the Youtube video  Normal Aging, Mild Cognitive Impairment, and Dementia , I was able to learn more about cognitive impairments. The Barrow Neurological Institute produced an informative video to help people learn about cognitive impairments and dementia. As I watched this video, I wrote down key points about dementia. I wanted to develop a general understanding about what dementia was prior to listening to an individual's personal experiences or a caretaker's perspective.  Within the video, Dr. Burke discussed cognitive impairments such as aphasia, apraxia, agnosia, impaired executive functioning, visuospatial deficits, impaired judgement, and dyscalculia. This reiterated concepts we've discussed in the Neuro Aspects course. This video is extremely helpful and would be a great introduction to the topic.  In addition, the video used a great analogy of the brain being like a library.
